Owl Party!

My wee one wanted an owl cake for his 3rd birthday.  I had been collecting pictures of octopus cakes as I was sure he was going to ask for an octopus cake.  Oh well.

I copied the design from the book - Cake Decorating Motifs by Sheila Lampkin.  She gives step by step instructions for more than 150 designs for using fondant icing.  I have used this book a lot since getting it and it has never failed me.  Love it.

I also made some cupcakes which I copied from Hello Cupcake! I simplified mine to save a little time.

And, of course, I made owl cake pops from Bakerella's book.  I am very proud of these.  They were very time consuming, though, so I made most of them without the wings.

I must also mention the gorgeous bunting which you can see in the top photo - this is from Especially For and I got really cute personalised printed owl party bags from Funky Dory Party Bags.

  9. Lynds - yes he had a lovely day. The rain stayed off so we enjoyed a bouncy castle in the back garden which was fantastic!

Anna - thank you. Must admit I am much more willing to try things like this now and am pleased with the results.

Li'l Macaroon - well you say you will be there next year but I also believed you would be here this Christmas to collaborate with me on a huge ginger bread house project but that's not gonna happen! Not listening to you anymore. ;-)

Astral - hee hee thanks. I am certainly being inspired by all the American blogs. I had never heard of a dessert table in my life until a few months ago!

  21. This is truly fantastic and I love your little cake pops most of all.

Owls are one of my favourite creatures and I would have been thrilled to have had an owl themed party as a little girl.

    Happy day!

C - thank you very much. I must say that a few years ago I wouldn't have attempted this but I think Blog world helps.

Felicity - I agree - owls are wonderful. We stopped at a falconry centre the other day and both boys got a chance to hold barn owls. Adam, especially, absolutely loved it!

Jane - thanks. I am in awe of those who go for 3 or more. I'm stopping at 2 as they already test the limits of my endurance and dexterity!!!

Jenny - I think cakepops are really cute - especially all the animal type ones!

    Pet - who wouldn't like a chocolate owl? :-)

    Leigh - thanks - I'll have a look.

HH - owls are wonderful aren't they?

    Robyn - thanks so much.
