The Cake Slice Bakers - Challenge 5 - February 2011 - Coffee - Dime Bar Cake.

My version of this wasn't very successful.

It did not look pretty, the crunch topping sank into the cake and more or less disappeared and my husband's verdict was, "you've made better cakes".

It tasted fine but nothing amazing.  I should maybe try again to see if I can get the proper effect of the dime bar crunch on top but, actually, I don't think I will bother.

I'm not going to bother putting the recipe up.

However, others in the Cake Slice Bakers did better jobs so click on the link to have a look at their versions of this cake - Cake Slice Blogroll.

And have a look at Apple & Spice to see how the cake should have looked!

  1. At least you can eat your cake! The one I made according to the recipe had to be thrown out! :(

  3. I am sorry that it didn't work out better for you. It sounds as though it did taste good though. I quite enjoyed the cake, although I think that I baked it a little too long.

  4. Oh well, it sounds like it might be a cake that is troublesome. Sorry it didn't work out though because Dime Bar cake sounds promising.

  5. Sorry your cake didn't work out, it is always so frustrating when they don't work. But the birthday cake you did for Adam definitely worked - that cake is great he must have been thrilled.

  6. Emily - I know - that's so frustrating - especially as it looked perfect before cutting into it. Your cupcakes looked great, though!

  7. Jodie - I should have changed the flavour like you did - might have enjoyed eating it more even if it did look like a dog's dinner!

  10. Kath - Yes, I like the idea of Dime bars on the top of the cake. I wonder if my oven was too hot. You never know, I might try the topping again with a different cake.
