The Cake Slice Bakers - Challenge 7 - April 2011 - Cold Oven Cream Cheese Pound Cake.

So this is my first ever Bundt cake.  Don't tell my husband but I bought myself a Bundt tin for it.  I'm glad I did as I love the way the cake looks and look how perfect it is in my cake keeper!

So, can't wait to keep experimenting with Bundt cakes.  I think they look classy and grown up.

Anyway, I didn't put any ginger in this cake as I don't like the stuff so I increased the lemon and made a lemon icing.  It was lovely and we finished it off very quickly.  Next time, I think I would up the lemon flavour a little more as I do love the tang.  A very moist and soft crumb to this cake.

Now, as we are moving house soon, I have packed away my recipe books and forgot to take a note of the recipe for this post.  Instead I will link to Emily's Cooking Foray for her post which includes the recipe.

  1. nice work... I love the density of the cake, looks superb and that lemon drizzle, wow!... Now, how much will you pay me not to tell Steve you bought that cake tin? eh?

  2. Thanks! Well, Steve did have some of the cake and obviously didn't notice it was a new tin. He will have just assumed it was already in the cupboard. Men are so easy to fool! ;-)

  3. Very nice. If your husband is like mine, he wouldn't even know the difference and won't know you got a new pan.

  4. I love bundt cakes and this sounds amazing, my hubby wouldn't have a clue if I'd made a cake in a new tin either. x

  5. Lou,
First thank you for commenting on mine...great minds think alike! Now, on to the fact that this is your first bundt cake! I must admit I laughed out loud a little when I read that. Not because you have never made one before but because it instantly reminded me of a scene in the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Please tell me you saw the movie. I thought of the scene where Ian's parents bring a bundt cake to the party and Tula's mom has no idea what it is! She ends up putting a plant in the middle! LOL Anyways, your cake looks fabulous...great job on your first bundt cake! =)

  7. The slice of cake looks delicious, so moist and dense. We moved last month, good luck! I still have so much stuff to unpack...like a certain bundt pan, lol! I needed to do the cupcakes anyways since I did not want that much cake around right now :)

  9. Wow, yours looks great! And the thought of lemon icing drizzled over it makes it sound even better.

  12. Thank you everyone. Yes, it was a lovely cake and I did enjoy the drizzled icing.
I am sure I have seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding but I don't remember the Bundt bit so maybe I haven't seen it. I obviously need to watch it. :-)
Natasha - We are just focussing on getting all the boxes packed and moved so I know full well tat once we are moved I will sigh a huge sigh of relief and probably not have any motivation to unpack! We will also have less space for stuff to go so things may very well stay in boxes in the garage for some time! Aaaarghhh.

I do think my Mr G would notice if I bought *ANYTHING* new for the kitchen so I dare not, but I too have been after one for ages.

Your icing looks really lovely there too

  18. Hi Carly - I think they accept new members later on in the year when they change their book but speak to Katie from http://appleandspice.blogspot.com/ to see if you can sneak in early.
    Louise.
